Among the topics covered during our 13 days 100 hour spiritual yoga retreat are the Ashtanga method’s fundamental concepts, technique, and safe alignment, vinyasa counts, Hatha, bodily opening, yoga philosophy, history, chanting, pranayama and meditation.
Ashtanga method’s fundamental concepts – Yoga In India
Ashtanga is based on several basic ideas. This multifaceted approach promotes physical and mental health. Ashtanga’s intense physical practices aim to build mental clarity, mindful breathing, physical strength, flexibility, and endurance. A successful ashtanga practice requires these five principles.
- Ujjayi Pranayama – An audible breathing method that helps to warm, invigorate, and focus.
- Drishti – Each asana has its own drishti, or focal point.
- Vinyasa – The practice focuses on syncing the breath with the postures and transitions.
- Bandha or body lock – Throughout the lesson, the bandhas are encouraged to be engaged to seal in prana energy and develop core stability.
- Regular practice – Six days a week is recommended, with Saturday as a rest day.
Vinyasa Counts – Yogic Learning At Higher Level
Vinyasa has many advantages. It clarifies what to teach your students and what they should focus on (and whatnot). As with any other yoga practice, there is an exact sequence to get from one pose to the next and back to standing. Like in an Ashtanga Led Class, when the count is utilised to guide practitioners through the motions without explanation. Once a week, self-practising practitioners will find it beneficial and enjoyable to flow with the group while counting vinyasas.
Add the assigned breath (inhale or exhale, or both) while moving, and the assigned gaze (drishti). So engaged and occupied is your mind that there is no time for daily concerns or the dreaded asana that will soon appear in your practice. It’s simpler to maintain your practice clean, true, and graceful if you know how to count yourself through each pose by heart.
Hatha – Yogaadi School Of Yoga Special
Hatha Yoga encompasses most Western yoga practices. Hatha Yoga is any yoga practice that involves physical yoga postures. Preparing the body, mind, and spirit for meditation requires Hatha practises.
Although the length of each class varies based on the instructor, the majority of classes last between 45 and 90 minutes. Classes often begin with a light warm-up, progress to more physically demanding poses, and conclude with a brief moment of meditation or reflection. Typical classes are divided into the following categories:
- Breathing: The majority of hatha yoga lessons begin with a period of concentration on your breath, known as pranayama. The instructor will continue to encourage you to concentrate on your breath during the poses, and she may suggest different breathing exercises for you to do as well.
- Yoga poses, also known as postures or asanas, are a series of exercises that are used to develop balance, flexibility, and strength in yoga practitioners. Various poses, ranging in complexity from laying flat on the floor to physically demanding postures, are demonstrated. Your instructor can modify a pose at any point throughout the session if you find it to be too challenging at any point during your class.
- Meditation: The majority of classes conclude with a brief period of contemplation. It is possible that your teacher will advise you to lie down on your back and cover yourself with a blanket for this period of quiet contemplation. Some instructors may lead you through a guided meditation or utilise Tibetan singing bowls to help you relax and unwind.
